Service Description

A Day of Craft & Connection at Golden Hill Wood, South Wales Join us for a unique and immersive spoon carving workshop in the beautiful Golden Hill Wood, nestled in the heart of the Welsh countryside. Our open-sided woodland workshop is built from the woods, in the woods—a peaceful and inspiring setting to slow down, reconnect with nature, and learn a traditional craft. Learn Traditional Green Woodworking in Nature This one-day spoon carving course is the perfect introduction to green woodworking—the art of using hand tools to shape freshly cut wood. Once a daily necessity, this timeless craft has seen a beautiful resurgence in recent years, offering a mindful and rewarding experience away from screens and busy schedules. You'll go home with your own hand-carved wooden spoon and a deeper connection to the land and its materials. What You’ll Learn: How to source and select wood for spoon carving The basics of green woodworking (or “bodging”) How to cleave a spoon blank from a log Axe techniques for shaping your spoon Safe and effective carving techniques How to use a spoon knife to carve the bowl Finishing, sanding, and natural oiling tips We provide all tools and materials, along with plenty of tea, coffee, and biscuits to keep you fueled throughout the day. Celi has been working with green wood since 2010. Self-taught at first, Celi later apprenticed in woodland management, traditional crafts, and sustainable building techniques. Since 2017, they’ve worked professionally in forestry, taught courses across the UK, and helped establish Golden Hill Wood as a vibrant, community-centered woodland project. About Golden Hill Wood Golden Hill Wood is a woman-led, inclusive woodland project run by Celi and their partner, Reyna.
