Join us for a day of at the beautiful Golden Hill Wood, nestled in the heart of the Welsh countryside for a pilot test course in traditional welsh lovespoon carving. Our woodland workshop is built from the woods, a peaceful and inspiring setting to slow down, and learn a traditional craft. This lovespoon whittling workshop is at a reduced rate of £60 per person as it is a pilot course. Welsh lovespoons have been carved and whittled for centuries to mark love, friendship and important milestones. They were originally made with minimal tools and each element had different meanings. In this course we will start with a blank and work on a specficprepared design whilst discussing how to work on other designs. You'll go home with your own hand-carved wooden Welsh lovespoon and a bunch of new skills. What You’ll Learn: - History about Welsh lovespoon carving and whittling - Different design elements and how you would approach them - How to source and select wood for welsh lovespoon carving - Safe tool handling - A variety of different cuts used in different situations - How to use a spoon knife to carve the bowl - Finishing, sanding, and natural oiling tips We provide all tools and materials, along with plenty of tea, coffee, and biscuits. ​This is particularly great for any couples wishing to celebrate their 5th wedding anniversary as the 5 year material is wood. Celi has been working with green wood since 2010. Self-taught at first, Celi later apprenticed at Cherry Wood Project. Since 2017, they’ve worked professionally in forestry, teaching courses, and helped establish Golden Hill Wood. ​ About Golden Hill Wood Golden Hill Wood is a woman-led, inclusive woodland project run by Celi and their partner, Reyna.
