WOODY SERVICES
Local countryside services in South Wales, South Gloucestershire and surrounding areas
We provide woody services across Monmouthshire, Gwent, Gloucestershire, Bristol and surrounding areas. Our work is often carried out on farms, estates, smallholdings and conservation land, with a focus on practical, low-impact woodland management.
We offer a variety of countryside services including Hedglaying and hedgerow planting, coppicing and gapping up. Our woodland work includes coppice restoration, selective thinning, ride clearance, dead hedging and general woodland maintenance.
HEDGELAYING SERVICES
Celi is a Bronze accredited hedgelayer with the National Hedglaying Society. Celi works mainly in the following hedgelaying styles not limited to :
-
Midland bullock hedgelaying style - a strong, neat and high hedge very stockproof.
-
Monmoutshire/Welsh Borders hedgelaying styles - short and sheep proof, great for conservation as it also contains dead wood.
-
Conservation hedge laying style - Lots of deadwood and less focus on strength or height, excellent for biodiversity.
We offer traditional hedgelaying services carried out using a range of regional styles, including Midland, Welsh Borders and conservation hedgelaying. Hedgelaying is an important countryside management technique that helps restore overgrown hedges, improve structure and create strong, living boundaries that support wildlife.
Hedgelaying is ideal for landowners, farms, estates and conservation projects who want to improve existing hedgerows rather than replace them. It helps thicken hedges, improve stock proofing and increase biodiversity by creating habitat and shelter for birds, insects and small mammals.
We can assess existing hedges and advise on the most suitable style of hedgelaying for the site, depending on whether the priority is strength, wildlife value or long-term regeneration
Prices start from £15 per meter.
There are currently substantial government grants available for hedgelaying England and Hedgelaying Wales.
The hedgelaying styles Celi works in are particularly appropriate for hedglaying in GLoucestershire and Monmoutshire.
HEDGE PLANTING, COPPICING & GAPPING UP
Alongside hedgelaying, we provide hedgerow planting, Coppicing and gapping up services for new and existing hedges. This includes planting native species, restoring damaged sections of hedge and improving long-term structure and density.
We focus on creating resilient, mixed native hedgerows that support biodiversity and thrive in local conditions. All planting can be supplied and installed, including preparation and aftercare advice.
This service is suitable for farmland boundaries, rewilding projects, conservation work and small-scale private land improvements. There are currently substantial grants available in both England and Wales for Hedgerow gapping up, planting and coppicing.

As with all our contracting work we provide hedgerow creation and tree planting contracting in Gloucestershire, Monmoutshire and around Bristol, Cardiff and Newport.

COPPICING, FORESTRY & WOODLAND MANAGEMENT WORKS
We also carry out coppicing and wider woodland management work, helping landowners manage woodland in a sustainable and traditional way.
Celi has been working in coppicing and forestry since 2017 when they did a woodland apprenticeship at The Cherry Wood Project.
Coppicing involves cutting trees such as hazel and other native species on a rotation, allowing them to regrow naturally. This creates a continuous supply of usable timber while also improving light levels and encouraging biodiversity on the woodland floor.
We offer practical woodland management including but not limited to:
-
Felling & Extraction
-
Selective thinning
-
Coppice Restoration & Maintenance
-
Ride clearance
-

-
Tree planting
-
Hedgerow planting

General Woodland maintenance
Our forestry and woodland services cover a wide range of practical land management tasks, from small private woods to larger conservation projects.
This includes tree planting, woodland restoration, habitat improvement work and general countryside maintenance. We work with nature-led approaches wherever possible, focusing on long-term health of the land rather than short-term clearance.
We are available for both one-off projects and ongoing seasonal management work.
Celi works with a small women lead team and we will consider work in the areas of Monmouthshire, Newport, Gloucestershire, north Somerset and Bristol.
